The purpose of this work is to model a radial compressor with a new method of predicting its map. The work provides a support for applying empirical models of isentropic efficiency and mass flow rate developed for the dynamic compressors of other fields to jet engine compressors. It is found that the accuracy of the models varies with compressors, and that it is feasible to use empirical models developed for turbocharger and automotive and marine engine compressors to jet engine compressors if proper models are chosen. Then, the prediction performances of the reviewed models for the performance maps are evaluated and analyzed. The performance maps of typical jet engine compressors were obtained from the GasTurb 13 software. The available models are mostly for turbocharger and automotive and marine engine compressors, and those for jet engine compressors are scarce. ![]() ![]() This paper presents a comprehensive review on empirical models of isentropic efficiency and mass flow rate of dynamic compressors. For the jet engine, the empirical models of compressor isentropic efficiency and mass flow rate are needed for its control- and diagnostics-oriented dynamic simulation, and they are also more attractive than their theoretical counterparts in its design, analysis and performance simulation. The dynamic compressor is an essential component of a jet engine.
